What causes condensation on windows?

We’ve all thrown open our curtains in the morning, only to find the windows are wet on the inside. This is condensation and one of its main causes is your home being too humid.

1. What causes condensation?

Condensation is caused by warm air coming into contact with cold surfaces, or sometimes when the home is too humid.

2. It’s worse in winter

It isn’t much of a problem in the summer months. But in winter it can get much worse, as we often have the heating turned up. When the warm air hits the cold windows, condensation is formed.

3. What’s the damage?

While a bit of humidity may sound harmless enough, if this isn’t dealt with immediately it will encourage black mould to grow on the walls and ceilings of your home.

4. What can you do to stop condensation?

Ventilation and insulation are some of the best ways to avoid condensation in the long-term. And extractor fans can help significantly with removing the unwanted warm mist of minute droplets in the air.
