Dyno-Rod are asking householders to be extra vigilant following a recent bogus caller incident in Barkingside

On 10 October, two men posing as Dyno-Rod engineers tricked their way into an elderly couple's home in Barkingside, London and stole £27,000.

At Dyno-Rod we are very concerned about this incident and wanted to issue some advice to help people recognise genuine Dyno-Rod engineers. In response to this we have dedicated a national hotline number which people can call, free of charge, to check if the caller is a genuine Dyno-Rod engineer. The number is 0800 084 1168.

The safety of Dyno customers and employees is of utmost importance to us.

We have prepared a quick and easy checklist to ensure you are aware of all that you can do to help us keep you safe and avoid any bogus callers entering your property.

How to check that your Dyno engineer is real:

1

Are you expecting someone to call? Have you requested our service and have you received a call from us or the engineer to confirm that your rescuer is on their way?

2

Ask for ID: Our engineers always carry ID and always wear our Dyno uniform, so please make sure you check these before you allow entry

3

Check the van from a window: All Dyno engineers visit with our unique bright orange Dyno vans, so check to see if you can see one of our vans parked nearby

4

If in any doubt call us on 0800 084 1168. We will be very happy to help and can quickly let you know whether an engineer should be at your site and who the engineer is

In general, the following some simple rules could prevent most bogus caller crimes:

Are you expecting someone to call?

Don't open your door to strangers. Check first – Look through a window or door-viewer to see who the caller is

Always put the chain on before opening the door

Always ask to see the caller's ID and refuse entry if you are in doubt – Bona fide callers will be happy to call back at another time if you request

If you are alone, ask the caller to come back later when a friend or neighbour can be with you

If in doubt, keep them out and call 101 (the police non-emergency number) or 999.
