Environmental Performance Update MAY 2009

Objective 1 Energy Consumption

1.1 Electricity consumption has decreased by 3% below target. The year to date (YTD) consumption measured at 201,674 kWh against a targeted figure of 208,333 kWh.

1.2 Gas consumption has increased to 24% above target due to the winter months. YTD consumption measured at 2,066 m3 against a targeted figure of 1,667 m3

Please remember to switch of any equipment/computers when not in use. Please also check that the temperature controls for the ceiling cassette units are not set too low or too high AND that these energy intensive units are switched off when not required.

Objective 2 Water Consumption

2.1 Water consumption has increased by 19.5% against budget. YTD consumption measured at 349 m3 against a target of 292 m3
Although the Sani-Sleeve products have contributed to the reduced requirement for water used for flushing but we still need to look at more ways to save water

Objective 3 Raising Staff Environmental Awareness

3.1 85% of staff are now trained in Environmental Awareness. We need everyone trained by the end of 2009.
Please ensure that you contact me or a member of the Environmental Action Team to arrange Environmental Awareness Training. This is a short excellent session delivered internally by Derek Hudson.

Objective 4 Production of General Waste

4.1 Paper/cardboard recycling volumes has increased by 7% YTD to 26.87 m3 against a target of 25 m3

4.2 General waste volumes have increased by 5.5% to 142.89 m3 against a target of 135.41 m3
These are good figures when taking into account the staffing levels based at Sutherland House.
Please contact Richard Kania X2291 if you have any other ideas for recycling streams. It is extremely important that we reduce the amount of general waste we sent to landfill (currently about 350 m3 per annum).
Keep up the good work!
